On the outskirts of Alexandria lies the village of Forada, Minnesota, home to just 199 people and a 20-member fire department.
Among those members is Philip Zimpel, a 3rd-generation firefighter of 15 years who now serves as treasurer at Forada FD.
Forada already had a history with GBC before Philip came on the scene, but a devastating tornado caused a hiatus one year. Seeing its potential, Philip decided to bring it back.
Traditionally, Forada FD hosts a pork chop feed, street dance, and pancake breakfast every year. But their GBC fundraiser brings the same as all three combined, with only a fraction of the resources.
And Philip is able to handle it all on his own. Despite the break, he was easily able to renew deals with 25 out of the 36 old businesses.

Now on their 20th issue, Philip admits that it only takes about 3 hours a year to maintain the fundraiser.
With double the funds, not only can Forada purchase new equipment, but they can also give back to the community beyond calls. Each year, Forada now does charity for various local 501(c)(3)’sincluding sports boosters, scouts, and American Legion chapters. Even with a low amount of emergencies, they can stay actively involved with its service area.
